- Telangana DCA introduces SMS alerts on NSQ drugs for medical shops
- Telangana DCA system aims to stop sale of substandard drugs quickly
Hyderabad: Telangana DCA has launched a Bulk Drug SMS Alert System to inform medical shops about Not of Standard Quality drugs. These medicines are commonly referred to as substandard drugs. Officials said the system will help quickly alert pharmacies and prevent the sale of such medicines to the public.
The Telangana Drugs Control Administration announced the initiative on March 11. Under the new system, alert messages will be sent to medical shops across Telangana. These messages will inform them about NSQ drugs detected by the Drugs Control Administration. Therefore, pharmacies can immediately stop selling these medicines.
The SMS alerts will carry details of drugs that fail quality tests. The Drugs Control Laboratory in Telangana declares certain samples as Not of Standard Quality. These include medicines that fail tests related to assay, disintegration, dissolution, and other quality parameters. As a result, such medicines may become ineffective in treating diseases.
Officials explained that the SMS Drug Alert System will help stop the sale and distribution of these drugs. It will also help in the quick recall of such medicines from the market. Therefore, authorities believe the system will improve regulatory response and protect public health.
Meanwhile, the Drugs Control Administration said the digital system will improve patient safety. By sending alerts quickly, authorities can ensure that NSQ drugs are withdrawn from the market before they reach more patients. The administration noted that this rapid communication can prevent the wider circulation of substandard medicines.
DG, DCA Shahnawaz Qasim also spoke about the initiative in a press release. He said the digital transformation effort allows quick communication of NSQ drug details to all sales units. According to him, this improves transparency and allows medical shops to take prompt action when alerts are issued.
The Drugs Control Administration added that the Telangana DCA is among very few regulatory bodies in the country to successfully implement such a Bulk SMS Alert System. Officials believe the system will strengthen monitoring of drug quality and improve coordination between regulators and medical shops.
With the launch of the Telangana DCA Bulk Drug SMS Alert System, authorities aim to ensure faster action against substandard drugs and enhance safety for patients across the state.
