- Mainpuri Eid tension as police stop prayers at Eidgah
- Video shows argument between police and Muslims in Kurawali
Hyderabad: A tense situation unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district after police allegedly stopped Muslims from offering Eid prayers. The incident occurred in Kurawali village on Saturday, March 21, and a video of the confrontation later surfaced on social media.
According to the input, Mainpuri Station House Officer Lalit Bhati asked Muslims gathered at a decades-old Eidgah to leave the premises. He claimed that locals had complained about disturbance. Therefore, he directed the worshippers to offer prayers inside the premises instead.
However, the situation escalated when Eidgah caretaker Shakir Hussain tried to reason with the officer. He said that prayers had been held there for years. During the exchange, the SHO lost his temper and said, “Mein yahi gaad dunga (I will bury you here).” The remark further heightened tensions at the spot.
Meanwhile, other members of the Muslim community stepped in as tensions grew. They intervened and took Hussain aside to prevent the situation from worsening. The video also showed continued arguments between the police officer and locals at the site.
Later, local Hindus present at the scene told the SHO that they had no objection to Muslims offering namaz. Despite this, SHO Bhati remained firm in his stance and continued arguing for around 20 minutes. The exchange reflected visible tension between the police and the gathering.
Eventually, the Muslims were able to offer Eid prayers after the prolonged argument. The video of the incident has since circulated on social media, drawing attention to the events in the village.
The incident highlights a moment of conflict during a religious gathering, where intervention from community members helped ease tensions. It also shows how local responses played a role in resolving the situation.
