Hyderabad, March 24: Hyderabad is set to receive 915 electric buses to improve public transport and reduce pollution. The initiative comes under the PM E-Drive (Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement) scheme of the Central government. Authorities awarded the Letter of Award (LOA) to the EKA Mobility and Green Cell Mobility consortium for the supply and maintenance of these buses.
The project will be implemented under the leadership of Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL). As part of the plan, all 915 buses will be introduced in phases. These buses aim to strengthen the city’s transport system. Also, the move focuses on promoting clean and sustainable mobility.
The project includes different types of buses based on city needs. Out of the total, 100 mini buses measuring nine metres will operate on narrow roads and in residential colonies. Meanwhile, 815 standard floor non AC buses measuring 12 metres will run on major routes. These larger buses will help manage heavy passenger traffic on busy corridors.
Since these buses are fully electric, they will not produce pollution emissions. Therefore, the project is expected to help control environmental pollution in the city. Also, officials designed these buses with modern technology to ensure safe and comfortable travel for passengers.
EKA Mobility has already received orders to supply electric buses in Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha. Now, the company is expanding its services to Hyderabad as well. This expansion marks another step in its growth in the electric mobility sector.
Speaking about the development, EKA Mobility Business Head Rohit Srivastava said, “We are proud to be a part of transforming Hyderabad into a smart and clean city in line with the PM e-Drive goals”. His statement underlines the company’s role in supporting the PM E-Drive mission.
Overall, the project reflects efforts to make Hyderabad a smart and clean city. Moreover, the addition of electric buses is expected to improve travel convenience while supporting environmental goals.
