Hyderabad, March 27: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the Centre reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 across the country. He stated that this fuel excise cut came as global crude oil prices continue to rise sharply.

He explained that crude oil prices increased from 70 to 122 dollars per barrel within a month. Therefore, the government took what he described as a key decision at a crucial time. Meanwhile, he said the rise in fuel prices has affected people worldwide.

Hardeep Singh Puri noted that petrol and diesel prices have gone up by 50 percent in Southeast Asia, 30 percent in America, and 20 percent in Europe. He said these figures show the global trend of rising fuel costs. Also, he pointed out that the common man is facing pressure due to these increases.

He further said that the Centre gave up significant revenue to provide relief to citizens. According to him, oil companies are currently bearing a loss of Rs 24 on petrol and Rs 30 on diesel. Therefore, he stressed that the government has taken steps to reduce the burden on people.

At the same time, Hardeep Singh Puri praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that Modi has protected Indians from the impact of rising international fuel prices. Meanwhile, he shared his response through his official Twitter handle.
