Hyderabad, Sept. 6: Congress leader Rashid Alvi accused the BJP of using religion for political gains and influencing voters through religious sentiments.
Alvi also criticised the demolition of a mosque inside the Saharanpur Collectorate campus in Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking about the spiritual film “Hanuman Ansh”, Alvi alleged that such films were being used to influence public opinion through religious sentiments.
The film, written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, portrays the life and teachings of Neem Karoli Baba, popularly known as Maharaj Ji.
Alvi alleged that the BJP had brought religion into politics since coming to power. He also criticised the party over alleged financial irregularities linked to the Ram temple issue.
He claimed that religious themes were repeatedly used during elections. He further alleged that films were now being made to influence voters and gain political support.
Rashid Alvi Slams Saharanpur Mosque Demolition
Alvi also criticised the demolition of the mosque at the Saharanpur Collectorate campus.
He alleged that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the BJP were using the demolition for political purposes ahead of the 2027 Assembly election.
Alvi said the action was unfortunate and alleged that it targeted Muslims. He also compared the issue with opposition to the demolition of religious structures in neighbouring countries.
The demolition followed a legal dispute over the structure and the land where it stood.
A district court had dismissed an appeal against an earlier order that held the structure was unauthorised and built on government land.
