Mumbai, April 12: Asha Bhosle passes away at 92 in Mumbai after health complications, her family confirmed on Sunday. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on April 11 due to exhaustion and a chest infection.
However, her condition worsened with cardiac and respiratory issues. These complications later led to her death. Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed the news. He also stated that the last rites will be held at 4 PM at Shivaji Park.
Asha Bhosle passes away at 92 after an extraordinary career spanning over eight decades. She recorded more than 12,000 songs in multiple languages. Therefore, she became one of the most versatile voices in Indian music.
She started her career at a young age and sang her first film song in 1943. Over time, she delivered iconic songs like “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja,” “Kajra Mohabbat Wala,” and “Dil Cheez Kya Hai.”
Initially, she gained fame for dance numbers. However, she later excelled in classical songs and ghazals. As a result, she earned respect across generations.
She received many awards during her career. She won two National Film Awards and several Filmfare Awards. Moreover, she received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
In 2011, she earned recognition from Guinness World Records as the most recorded artist. She was born into the Mangeshkar family and was the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar.
Despite comparisons, she built her own identity. Meanwhile, her personal life saw highs and lows. Yet, she continued performing and recording even in later years.
Her passing has left the nation in grief. Fans and celebrities have shared tributes on social media. Her songs will continue to inspire generations.
