Hyderabad: A total of 992 drunken driving cases were booked during weekend checks across the tri commissionerate limits in Hyderabad, police said. Authorities intensified enforcement and conducted large scale drunk driving tests between April 10 and 11.
The Hyderabad Commissionerate registered 466 cases, while Cyberabad reported 240 cases and Malkajgiri recorded 286 cases. Police also confirmed that 32 offenders were sentenced to imprisonment following court proceedings.
In Hyderabad limits, police caught 466 offenders during the checks. Of these, 404 were two wheelers, 23 were three wheelers, and 39 were cars and other vehicles. Officials said most violations involved two wheeler riders.
Hyderabad drunken driving cases surge
Meanwhile, Cyberabad police nabbed 240 individuals during the weekend enforcement drive. Among them, 193 were two wheelers, 9 were three wheelers, and 38 were four wheeler drivers. Officers stated that continuous monitoring helped identify repeat offenders.

In Malkajgiri, police booked 286 offenders, including 251 two wheelers, nine three wheelers, and 26 four wheeler drivers. Officials said enforcement teams were deployed at key junctions to ensure strict compliance.
Further, courts disposed of several cases during the past week. Between April 6 and 11, 86 cases were cleared, with two offenders receiving jail terms and 84 penalised with fines.
Similarly, in Malkajgiri, 218 cases were disposed of in court. Of these, 186 individuals were fined, while 30 were sentenced to jail and two were assigned social service.
Police reiterated strict action against offenders causing fatal accidents under the influence of alcohol. Officials warned that such cases would attract charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This provision relates to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and carries punishment of up to 10 years imprisonment along with a fine.
Authorities urged citizens to avoid drunk driving and follow traffic rules to ensure public safety.
