Hyderabad, July 12: The Hyderabad Under-19 cricket team, fresh from its Vinoo Mankad Trophy triumph, was felicitated during the closing ceremony of the Sreenidhi University TG20 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The championship-winning squad was honoured before a packed crowd in recognition of its outstanding achievement on the national stage.
The felicitation celebrated Hyderabad’s success in age-group cricket and highlighted the city’s growing pipeline of young cricketing talent.
Several members of the title-winning Under-19 team also featured in the inaugural edition of the Sreenidhi University TG20, gaining valuable experience alongside seasoned domestic cricketers.
Aaron George, who captained Hyderabad to the Vinoo Mankad Trophy title, represented the Ranga Reddy Risers in the TG20 along with Alankrith Rapole.
Wafi Kachchhi played a key role for the Anvita Khammam Aces, helping the team reach the tournament final, while Nipun Reddy represented the Palamuru Strikers, adding to his competitive experience.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) said the league serves as an important platform for nurturing emerging talent and preparing young players for higher levels of the game.
The closing ceremony began with a vibrant cultural showcase celebrating Telangana’s rich traditions. Performances included:
- Kolatam
- Lambadi Dance
- Bonalu Kolatam
- Bathukamma Dance
- Oggu Dollu
The performances entertained spectators before the tournament finale and reflected the state’s cultural heritage.
Members of the Hyderabad Cricket Association TG20 Governing Council—Jeevan Reddy, Agam Rao, and Sanjeev Reddy—were present during the closing ceremony.
Singer Rahul Sipliganj, who performed during the event, said it was a unique experience.
Performing at the Sreenidhi University TG20 has been an amazing experience. I used to watch the Super Bowl where artists perform at the centre of the ground. Seeing something similar in Telangana and performing before a packed crowd is an honour,” he said.
Actor Vijay Deverakonda, the brand ambassador of the league, praised the tournament’s success.
TG20 is officially the biggest tournament after the IPL, and that is all thanks to the Hyderabad Cricket Association, our players and the people of Telangana. I’m proud of what we have achieved throughout the tournament,” he said.
