Hyderabad, May 10: Panic gripped devotees at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan after a man suddenly jumped into a giant cauldron containing offerings on Saturday.
The incident created confusion for a few moments before people present at the shrine overpowered the man and pulled him out of the cauldron.
According to initial reports, the man is suspected to be mentally unstable. However, officials have not yet confirmed his identity or the motive behind his actions.
A CCTV video of the incident later surfaced on social media. In the footage, the man, dressed in a beige T shirt and dark pants, is seen walking toward the giant cauldron without drawing much attention from devotees nearby.
Seconds later, he suddenly jumps into the cauldron and begins picking up money and offerings placed inside by visitors at the shrine.
Soon after the man jumped in, another person immediately entered the cauldron and caught hold of him. The intruder was then pushed to the ground as several others rushed to the spot.
The video shows the man receiving a few blows while people attempted to stop him from collecting the offerings. Moments later, two individuals lifted him out of the cauldron.
They then held his hands and legs tightly and carried him away from the area as he struggled to free himself.
The incident caused temporary panic among devotees gathered at the dargah. However, the situation returned to normal shortly afterward.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident. It also remains unclear whether the man was handed over to police or taken for medical evaluation.
Ajmer Sharif Dargah is one of the country’s most visited Sufi shrines and attracts thousands of devotees every day from different parts of India and abroad. Security personnel remain deployed at the shrine due to the large daily footfall.
The viral CCTV footage has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many users expressing concern over security arrangements and the condition of the man involved in the incident.
