Governor Praises Telangana Prison Reforms, inaugurates Jail Museum

Hyderabad, May 12 (Maxim News): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla praised the prison reforms introduced by Telangana Police and prison authorities during a programme held at Chanchalguda Jail.

The Governor participated in the inauguration of the prison museum and the “Feel the Jail” initiative at Chanchalguda Jail on Monday.

Speaking at the event, Shiv Pratap Shukla said the reforms being implemented in Telangana prisons are yielding positive results. He particularly appreciated the open jail system and noted that such initiatives help improve the rehabilitation process of inmates.

The Governor recalled that he had also introduced several reforms during his tenure as a minister in Uttar Pradesh. He stressed the need to bring transformation among prisoners through correctional measures and humane treatment.

Governor Calls for Humane Prison Environment

Shiv Pratap Shukla advised prison officials to focus on reforming inmates instead of treating prisons only as confinement centres. He stated that creating a pleasant and positive atmosphere inside prisons can encourage behavioural change among prisoners.

According to the Governor, inmates do not always need to remain under strict isolation and restrictions. He said rehabilitation and emotional support are equally important in helping prisoners reintegrate into society.

The Governor further emphasised that modern prison reforms should aim at changing the mindset of inmates and preparing them for a better future after release.

During the programme, Director General of Prisons Soumya Mishra and several senior officials were present.

Officials explained various initiatives being implemented in Telangana prisons as part of rehabilitation and correctional reforms. The newly launched prison museum and “Feel the Jail” experience are expected to create awareness about prison administration and the reformative approach adopted by the department.

The Telangana prison department has recently focused on several inmate welfare measures, skill development programmes, and reforms aimed at improving living conditions inside prisons. (Maxim News)
