Hyderabad, May 13: A doctor couple living in a gated community in Hyderabad was allegedly drugged and robbed by a gang posing as domestic workers in the Kowkoor area on Tuesday night.
The victims were identified as Dr Vijaya Lakshmi and her husband Dr Murali Mohan, residents of Gulf Enclave under the limits of Jawaharnagar Police Station.
According to police, two Nepali men joined the house as domestic helpers nearly two weeks ago.
Investigators suspect the duo planned the robbery along with five other gang members.
Police said the accused allegedly mixed intoxicating substances in food or drinks before attacking the couple.
The gang reportedly tied the hands and legs of the victims after they lost consciousness.
Gang Escapes With Gold And Cash
Police said the accused escaped with nearly 60 tolas of gold, silver articles and Rs 30,000 cash from the house.
Investigators believe the robbery was pre planned and executed after studying the family’s routine movements.
In an attempt to destroy evidence, the suspects allegedly damaged CCTV cameras installed inside the gated community.
The incident created panic among residents in the Kowkoor locality.
After receiving information,Jawaharnagarpolice rushed to the spot and collected forensic evidence from the house.
Police teams examined the damaged CCTV systems and gathered clues from nearby areas.
Special Teams Formed To Trace Accused
Officials registered a case and launched a large scale search operation to trace the absconding suspects.
Police alerted nearby stations and circulated details of the accused among field teams.
Investigators are also verifying the background details and identification records submitted by the domestic workers before joining the house.
Police suspect the accused may have links with similar property offences reported in other parts of the city.
Officials said further investigation is underway to identify all gang members involved in the robbery.
