Mulugu, May 23: An elderly farmer reportedly died due to suspected sunstroke in Puredupalli village of Mangapet mandal in Mulugu district amid rising temperatures across Telangana.
The deceased was identified as Utukuri Somi Reddy, 78, a resident of Ramachandrunipeta village in Mangapet mandal.
According to villagers, Somi Reddy went to his agricultural field near a dried up Ooracheruvu tank on Friday. Local residents later found him dead inside the tank on Saturday morning.
Heatwave Conditions Continue In Mulugu
Villagers suspect that the farmer suffered a heat stroke due to extreme weather conditions. They believe he collapsed in the dried tank and died on the spot.
Residents said Mangapet mandal recorded temperatures of nearly 44 degrees Celsius over the last two days. Hot winds also continued across the region, worsening heatwave conditions.
Telangana has been witnessing severe summer temperatures in several districts, with officials repeatedly advising people, especially elderly persons and farmers, to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
