Hyderabad, May 26: Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand on Tuesday handed over cheques to surrendered Maoist couple Pasunuri Narahari alias Santosh and his wife Dhanamma at the DGP office in Hyderabad.
Addressing the media, the DGP said Narahari had played a significant role in the Maoist movement for nearly four and a half decades.
CV Anand stated that the Telangana Police continued efforts to encourage Maoists to surrender and return to normal life.
Telangana Police Track Absconding Maoists
According to the DGP, police have identified 47 Maoists who are still absconding across the country.
He said three absconding Maoists belong to Telangana, one to Andhra Pradesh, 15 to Chhattisgarh, 13 to Jharkhand and 15 to Odisha.
CV Anand revealed that 822 Maoists have surrendered before Telangana Police since 2024.
He added that the surrendered cadres had collectively deposited 334 weapons during the surrender process.
The DGP said Maoists from Odisha who surrendered before Telangana Police had already been handed over to the Odisha government.
He further stated that he would soon visit various districts to personally meet surrendered Maoists from Telangana and encourage rehabilitation efforts.
The Telangana Police have been conducting rehabilitation programmes aimed at integrating surrendered Maoists into mainstream society through financial assistance and welfare measures.
