Hyderabad: Osmania University has extended summer holidays for all degree and postgraduate colleges under its jurisdiction in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions and soaring temperatures across Telangana.
According to an official order issued on May 30, 2026, the university extended vacations for all government, private, aided, constituent and affiliated undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) colleges until June 6, 2026. Earlier, the summer break was scheduled to end on May 31.
The decision was taken after considering the severe heat conditions affecting several parts of the state. Telangana has been experiencing unusually high temperatures in recent weeks, prompting concerns over the health and safety of students and staff.
Colleges to Reopen on June 8
The Registrar’s Office directed principals of all campuses, constituent colleges and affiliated institutions under Osmania University to strictly follow the revised schedule and make necessary arrangements accordingly.
University authorities clarified that regular academic activities will resume from June 8, 2026 (Monday) across all colleges under the university.
The administration has also instructed college managements to communicate the revised holiday schedule to students, teaching staff and non teaching employees to avoid any confusion.
The extension comes amid continuing heatwave conditions in Telangana, with weather authorities issuing warnings for several districts. Educational institutions and government departments have been taking precautionary measures to minimize exposure to extreme temperatures.
Osmania University officials stated that the decision was taken in the interest of student welfare and to ensure a safe academic environment before the commencement of regular classes.
