New Delhi, May 31: Admiral Krishna Swaminathan on Sunday took charge as the new Chief of the Naval Staff, succeeding Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who retired from service after completing his tenure.
Before assuming the top post, Admiral Swaminathan served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, one of the Indian Navy’s most strategically significant commands.
After taking charge, the new Navy Chief emphasized that the Indian Navy remains fully prepared to safeguard the country’s maritime and economic interests amid an increasingly complex regional security environment.
Focus on Operational Readiness
Speaking to reporters, Admiral Swaminathan said the Navy continues to operate in a challenging, unpredictable, and evolving maritime security landscape.
He stated that maintaining the highest levels of operational readiness and combat effectiveness would be his foremost priority. According to him, the Navy will remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any threat to national security.
The Navy Chief noted that the force is actively deployed across strategic maritime regions to protect India’s interests and ensure stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
Modernisation and Technology Push
Admiral Swaminathan said the Indian Navy is already on a strong path of capability enhancement and modernization. He stressed that ongoing programmes aimed at strengthening naval power would continue under his leadership.
He also highlighted the importance of adopting niche and emerging technologies to enhance operational capabilities and improve combat preparedness.
According to the Navy Chief, efforts will focus on consolidating existing projects, accelerating critical initiatives where required, and ensuring that the Navy remains future-ready.
Extensive Naval Experience
Admiral Swaminathan brings decades of operational, command, and staff experience to the position. During his distinguished naval career, he has held several key appointments and played an important role in shaping India’s maritime strategy and operational preparedness.
His appointment comes at a time when maritime security has gained increasing importance due to evolving geopolitical developments and growing strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific region.
With a strong emphasis on modernization, technological advancement, and combat readiness, Admiral Swaminathan is expected to steer the Indian Navy through its next phase of growth and transformation.
