Hyderabad, June 3: Chilkalguda Police arrested a habitual automobile theft offender and recovered five stolen vehicles, including four two wheelers and one passenger auto rickshaw, in a significant breakthrough in a series of vehicle theft cases reported in Secunderabad.
The accused, identified as Mykala Naveen, 26, a catering worker from New Ashok Nagar in Parsigutta, was apprehended on June 3 during a special operation conducted by Chilkalguda Police.
Investigators said he was allegedly involved in multiple automobile thefts across the Chilkalguda and Warasiguda police station limits.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by auto driver Bijoriye Kamal Prakesh, who reported that his passenger auto rickshaw was stolen from outside his residence in Mylargadda during the early hours of June 1. According to the complaint, he had parked the vehicle in front of his house at around 4 a.m.
However, when he returned a few minutes later, the auto was missing. Despite searching the surrounding area, he could not locate the vehicle and subsequently approached the police.
Based on the complaint, Chilkalguda Police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, officers analysed local intelligence inputs and technical evidence, which led them to the accused.
Police said Naveen allegedly targeted vehicles parked in isolated residential areas where surveillance was minimal and the chances of being identified were low. Investigators revealed that he had developed habits such as alcohol consumption and smoking and allegedly resorted to vehicle thefts to meet his financial needs.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to committing a series of vehicle thefts in Chilkalguda and Warasiguda. Police said he carefully surveyed neighbourhoods before selecting vehicles and stealing them during early morning hours.
The recovered vehicles include a Bajaj Pulsar 150 motorcycle, Hero Honda Splendor Plus motorcycle, Honda Activa scooter, Hero Honda Passion Plus motorcycle, and the stolen passenger auto rickshaw bearing registration number TS10UA8087. The vehicles were linked to five separate theft cases.
Police are now verifying whether the accused has any involvement in additional vehicle thefts reported in other parts of Hyderabad. Further investigation is underway to trace any possible receivers of stolen vehicles and uncover additional criminal links.
The case was detected under the supervision of Secunderabad Zone DCP Rakshitha K. Murthy, Additional DCP J. Narsaiah, and ACP Chilkalguda Division K. Shashank Reddy. The operation was led by Inspector V. Rama Krishna, Detective Inspector L. Madhu Babu, SI J. Rakesh, and the Chilkalguda Police crime team.
Police officials said the successful recovery of all five stolen vehicles highlights the department’s continued efforts to curb property offences and improve vehicle theft detection across Hyderabad.
