New Delhi, June 3: A joint operation by Delhi Police Special Cell and the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has uncovered an alleged conspiracy involving operatives linked to fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and suspected Pakistan based handlers, officials said.
Investigators claim the network was attempting to recruit Indian youth with promises of money and allegedly planned criminal activities targeting a political leader in Delhi.
According to investigators, a 26 year old man, identified as Huzaifa Farooq Ahmed Hashmi, was arrested from the Bhayandar area near Mumbai during the operation.
During interrogation, officials allegedly uncovered information suggesting that Indian youth were being recruited into criminal networks through financial inducements and later drawn into unlawful activities.
Police said Hashmi was allegedly in contact with a Pakistan based individual identified as Yawar Khan. Investigators claim Yawar Khan coordinated with other suspects, including individuals identified as Sajid and Tauqir, to form a network.
According to the investigation, the group was allegedly assigned a target in Delhi. However, authorities said the identity of the intended target has not been disclosed.
Police stated that the suspects claimed they would be informed of the target’s identity only after reaching Delhi.
Officials have arrested multiple accused connected to the case and are examining financial transactions, communication records, and other evidence to determine the extent of the alleged conspiracy.
Investigators are also probing possible links to foreign handlers and the source of funds allegedly used to recruit individuals.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are continuing efforts to gather additional information from the accused and verify all claims made during questioning.
