Meenakshi Natarajan, known for her strong grassroots connect and long association with the Congress, has previously served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha. She is also considered close to senior party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Her nomination is being seen as part of the party’s effort to bring back experienced leaders with ideological grounding and strong field-level experience into the national legislative framework.

The Congress move is viewed as an attempt to balance experienced leadership with fresh political voices, aiming to strengthen its influence in the Upper House as the Rajya Sabha elections approach.

Natarajan’s candidature, in particular, is being seen as symbolising both continuity and revival for the party in Madhya Pradesh.
