Hyderabad, June 5: Three members of a family, including two children and their grandmother, died in a fire accident after a gas cylinder exploded at a house in Miryalaguda town of Nalgonda district late Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Vanam Chandrakala, her grandson Lakshman (16), and granddaughter Pranathi (14).
According to police, Chandrakala was sleeping in a thatched house with her grandchildren when a fire broke out during the night. Preliminary investigations indicate that a short circuit may have triggered the blaze.
Officials said the occupants noticed the fire and attempted to respond, but the situation worsened when a gas cylinder exploded inside the house. The explosion led to an intense fire, resulting in the deaths of all three victims.
Police said Chandrakala’s husband had recently died due to illness. Her daughter, Dhanamma, had been living with her two children at her parents’ residence after the death of her husband nearly a decade ago.
Dhanamma had reportedly travelled to Pune three days earlier in search of employment, leaving her children in the care of their grandmother.
After receiving information about the incident, fire services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control. Rescue teams later recovered the bodies from the house.
Rajasekhar Raju inspected the accident site and supervised the rescue operations. The bodies were shifted to a local government hospital for further procedures.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
