Bengaluru, June 6: Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday said the issue surrounding senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy’s resignation had been resolved after discussions between the two leaders in Bengaluru.
Shivakumar met Ramalinga Reddy at a private hotel in Jayanagar following the minister’s resignation over portfolio allocation. Senior Congress ministers and close associates of Reddy also attended the meeting.
Ramalinga Reddy Resignation Issue Settled After Talks
Addressing the media after the meeting, Shivakumar described the matter as an internal party issue. He said both leaders discussed the concerns and reached a solution.
“This is a family matter. We sat down and spoke. The issue has been resolved. Sometimes problems arise due to a lack of information. We will address all concerns and provide opportunities to senior leaders,” Shivakumar said.
Ramalinga Reddy resigned from the Cabinet on Friday after expressing dissatisfaction over being assigned the Water Resources Department instead of the Bengaluru Urban Development portfolio he had sought. He signed his resignation letter before the media and stated that he would continue as an MLA.
The resignation letter was sent to the Chief Minister through an aide. However, Shivakumar did not accept the resignation and initiated talks with the senior leader.
Reddy is considered a close associate of senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah. Political observers viewed the resignation as a sign of discontent within the party. However, Shivakumar’s decision to reject the resignation and engage directly with Reddy appears to have prevented the issue from escalating further.
