Hyderabad, June 8: A controversy over derogatory flexis and posters targeting BJP MP Etela Rajender has brought internal differences within the Telangana BJP into the spotlight, with police registering a case and detaining six persons in connection with the incident.
The KPHB Police booked former SCB vice president J. Ramakrishna and five others following a complaint regarding banners and posters displayed in several parts of Hyderabad, including Malkajgiri, KPHB and Secunderabad.
The posters allegedly accused Etela Rajender, the BJP MP from Malkajgiri, of hindering the party’s growth in Telangana and contained derogatory remarks against him.
The BJP’s Kukatpally office lodged a complaint with the KPHB Police on June 1. Following an investigation, police detained six individuals on Sunday, including J. Ramakrishna.
The incident sparked political debate and renewed discussion about differences among senior leaders within the Telangana BJP. However, State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao denied reports of internal discord and stated that the party had no connection with the flexis and posters.
As the controversy intensified, the BJP leadership initiated disciplinary action against Ramakrishna. The party suspended him with immediate effect, citing violation of party discipline and actions that allegedly damaged the reputation of party leaders.
The BJP also directed Ramakrishna to submit an explanation within one week regarding the allegations.
Meanwhile, former BJP National Executive Committee member Shekhar Rao Perala raised further questions through a social media post. Referring to a past conversation with a senior party leader, he sought an inquiry into allegations related to internal functioning within the party.
The episode has generated significant political attention and highlighted challenges facing the Telangana BJP as it seeks to maintain unity ahead of future electoral contests.
