Hyderabad, June 13: Hyderabad City Police have stepped up monsoon preparedness measures after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued forecasts of heavy rainfall across the city. As part of precautionary efforts, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar conducted field inspections of several waterlogging-prone locations on Saturday and reviewed arrangements aimed at minimizing disruptions to public movement and traffic.
The Commissioner, accompanied by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, DCP Traffic Avinash Kumar, and DCP Kajal, visited key vulnerable points including Lakdikapul, Masab Tank, Panjagutta Crematorium area, KBR Park Junction, and other locations that have historically witnessed water accumulation during intense rainfall.
During the inspection, Sajjanar directed field officials to ensure that rainwater does not remain stagnant on roads for extended periods. He instructed concerned agencies to take swift action to improve drainage flow and remove obstacles that could hinder the movement of water. The objective, he said, is to reduce traffic congestion and enhance commuter safety during heavy rains.
Hyderabad Police Intensify Monsoon Preparedness
The Police Commissioner stated that Hyderabad City Police are maintaining continuous coordination with multiple government departments, including GHMC, HYDRAA, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, the Electricity Department, and other civic agencies. The coordinated approach is aimed at ensuring a rapid response to rain-related emergencies and minimizing inconvenience to residents.

Sajjanar appealed to citizens to remain indoors as much as possible during periods of heavy rainfall and avoid unnecessary travel. He advised residents to closely follow weather updates and official advisories issued by the Meteorological Department and police authorities before planning their journeys.
The Commissioner also urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution while travelling during rains. He warned people to stay alert near open manholes, uncovered drainage channels, waterlogged stretches, and electric poles, which could pose serious safety risks during adverse weather conditions.
Hyderabad Police have instructed all field units to remain vigilant and respond promptly to any rain-related incidents. Traffic personnel have also been directed to monitor major junctions and vulnerable areas to ensure smooth vehicular movement and provide immediate assistance wherever required.
Officials reiterated that public safety remains the top priority during the ongoing monsoon season. Citizens facing any emergency or requiring immediate assistance have been advised to contact the police emergency helplines by dialling 100 or 112.
With forecasts indicating continued rainfall activity, Hyderabad Police said they will remain on high alert and continue monitoring the situation across the city.
