Delhi, June 14: The Central government has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of Army Staff of India. He will succeed General Upendra Dwivedi, who is scheduled to retire on June 30.
Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth is currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff and will formally assume charge from the afternoon of June 30 in the rank of General.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Lt Gen Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986. Over nearly four decades of military service, he has held several operational, strategic and command appointments across different environments.
The Defence Ministry said his experience spans capability development, institutional leadership and operational roles that contributed to strengthening the Indian Army’s combat readiness and long term transformation.
His appointment marks a major leadership transition in the Indian Army as the government continues to focus on military modernisation and future readiness.
