Tehran, June 14: Iran authorities have announced the official funeral schedule for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with ceremonies set to begin on July 4 and conclude with burial on July 9. Iranian state media said the arrangements were finalised by the committee overseeing the state funeral.
The farewell ceremonies will take place in Tehran on July 4 and July 5 at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla prayer complex. Public mourning events and official observances are expected to draw large crowds.
According to the announced schedule, a major funeral procession will be held in Tehran on July 6, followed by another public procession in the holy city of Qom on July 7.
The final ceremony will be held in Mashhad on July 9, where Khamenei will be buried at the Imam Reza Shrine, one of Shia Islam’s most important religious sites.
Iranian media reported that the funeral had earlier been postponed amid wartime and security conditions following Khamenei’s death in February.
