New Delhi, June 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the understanding reached between the United States and Iran to end the conflict in West Asia and expressed hope that it would restore peace and stability in the region.
In a message shared on X on Monday, Modi said the prolonged conflict had caused serious economic disruption across the world and resulted in loss of lives across multiple countries. He added that India hopes the implementation of the agreement will ensure freedom of navigation and support global commerce.
The Prime Minister also said India looks forward to continued discussions on unresolved issues and expects them to lead to a sustainable final agreement.
The development comes after the United States and Iran announced a framework understanding to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global trade and energy route. Reports indicate that the proposed agreement is expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19.
India has closely monitored developments in West Asia due to the region’s importance to energy supplies, maritime trade and economic stability. The recent conflict also affected global fuel markets and shipping routes.
