Hyderabad, June 20: A woman was arrested in Siddipet district after police alleged that she killed her two year old son with the help of her boyfriend and then tried to pass off the death as a medical emergency.
The incident came to light nearly 20 days after the child’s death, when the boy’s father grew suspicious and approached the police.
According to police, Swamy, a cab driver from Teegul village in Jagdevpur mandal, was living with his wife Jyoti and their son Harikrishna under the Keesara police station limits. During the investigation, police found that Jyoti was allegedly in a relationship with a man identified as Naveen.
Police said Jyoti would call Naveen home when her husband was away. Investigators alleged that the child often cried when the two were together, which led to tension. During questioning, Jyoti allegedly confessed that she and Naveen attacked the child and killed him.
Police said Jyoti later told her husband that the boy had died after suffering a fit. Swamy believed her and took the body to his native village, where the child was buried the same night.
However, police said Swamy later became suspicious after noticing changes in Jyoti’s behaviour. His doubts reportedly deepened after he found blood stains in the house. He then lodged a complaint with the police.
Following the complaint, police registered a case and questioned Jyoti. During the probe, she allegedly confessed to the crime. Police arrested Jyoti, while Naveen is currently absconding.
The case has triggered shock in the district, with police continuing efforts to trace the second accused and complete the investigation.
