Hyderabad’s Eight Kamaans To Be Restored With Rs 11.86 Crore

Hyderabad, July 3 (Maxim News): Hyderabad’s eight historic Kamaans in the Old City will undergo comprehensive restoration and renovation after the Telangana government sanctioned Rs 11.86 crore for the project. The Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) will execute the works, while the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will provide the funds.

The government issued the approval through G.O.Rt.No.652, dated July 2, 2026, under the Metropolitan Area and Urban Development Department. The project aims to preserve the city’s heritage structures and improve public safety.

According to the government order, QQSUDA informed the government that an earlier sanction of Rs 2 crore for minor repairs to six Kamaans was insufficient to restore their structural strength. Therefore, the authority sought approval for complete restoration and renovation of all eight heritage gateways.

The government accepted the proposal and granted administrative sanction for the following works:

Rani Gunj Kamaan – Rs 0.63 crore
Sheik Faiz Kamaan – Rs 0.82 crore
Chatta Bazaar Kamaan – Rs 1.40 crore
Dewan Deodi Kamaan I – Rs 2 crore
Dabeerpura Kamaan – Rs 1.14 crore
Hussaini Alam Kamaan – Rs 0.55 crore
Dewan Deodi Kamaan II – Rs 2.38 crore
Hashmat Gunj Kamaan – Rs 2.94 crore

The total project cost stands at Rs 11.86 crore.

The government said the historic Kamaans, built during the Qutb Shahi and Asaf Jahi periods, have suffered structural damage over the years. It also noted that falling plaster and deteriorating portions pose risks to residents and commuters, especially during the monsoon season. Therefore, it approved comprehensive restoration instead of minor repair works.

Furthermore, the government permitted QQSUDA to invite Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for consultancy services. The selected consultant will prepare detailed project reports, cost estimates, and related technical documents.

In addition, QQSUDA received permission to invite separate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) tenders for each restoration work in accordance with the Telangana Public Procurement Act and government procurement rules.

The restoration project forms part of Telangana’s broader effort to conserve Hyderabad’s architectural heritage. These iconic Kamaans once served as gateways to palaces, neighbourhoods, and important city routes. Officials expect the project to preserve these landmarks for future generations while improving public safety. (Maxim News)
