According to US officials, at least two commercial ships were damaged in the reported attack. Separately, an unidentified projectile struck an oil tanker sailing off the Omani coast.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said the impact triggered a fire on board the tanker. Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage.

Meanwhile, the reported attacks came only days after a reported understanding between the United States and Iran to halt attacks on commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.

US officials strongly criticised the incident and accused Iran of violating the understanding. However, Iranian authorities had not issued an official response at the time of reporting.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and natural gas exports. Consequently, renewed security concerns in the region have raised fresh worries among international shipping and energy markets.
