HC Orders Status Quo On Fatima Owaisi Institution Building

Hyderabad, July 7: The Telangana High Court has ordered status quo on the Fatima Owaisi Educational Institution building and restrained Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials from taking coercive action. The interim order came while hearing a petition filed by the Salar-e-Millat Educational Trust.

Justice B Vijaysen Reddy passed the interim order on Monday after the Trust alleged that GHMC officials were attempting to demolish the building despite its pending application under the Building Regularisation Scheme.

The Trust informed the court that it had applied for regularisation in 2016 under the Building Regularisation Scheme. However, it argued that the authorities had not taken a final decision on the application and therefore could not proceed with demolition.

Senior counsel B Mayur Reddy, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that any coercive action would be illegal while the regularisation application remained pending.

Meanwhile, GHMC opposed the plea and argued that the writ petition was not maintainable. The civic body contended that the building falls within the Full Tank Level of Salkam Cheruvu. It also informed the court that related proceedings are already pending before another Bench and that the final FTL notification has not yet been issued.

After hearing both sides, Justice Vijaysen Reddy directed all parties to maintain status quo until further orders. The court also issued notices to the GHMC Commissioner, the Rajendranagar Zonal Commissioner, the Chandrayangutta Deputy Commissioner and other respondents, seeking their replies.

The matter has been adjourned to August.
