Auckland, July 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Auckland on Friday, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in nearly four decades. The visit comes at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
Prime Minister Luxon received Modi at the airport, welcoming him as India seeks to deepen cooperation with New Zealand in trade, investment, defence and people-to-people exchanges.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon are scheduled to hold bilateral talks focusing on expanding cooperation across sectors including trade, defence, education, technology and investment.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and New Zealand have witnessed growing engagement in recent years, with both countries working to strengthen their strategic and economic partnership.
As part of his visit, Prime Minister Modi will:
- Meet leading business and industry representatives in Auckland.
- Interact with prominent sports personalities.
- Address members of the Indian diaspora, highlighting the growing people-to-people relationship between India and New Zealand.
The visit follows Modi’s three-day tour of Australia, where he participated in high-level bilateral engagements and business events.
The visit comes months after New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s visit to India, during which the two leaders held bilateral discussions in New Delhi aimed at enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
The MEA said Prime Minister Modi’s visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to the India–New Zealand partnership and open new avenues for collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region.
