Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it closed the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping until US interference stops. Iran also asserted authority to levy charges on vessels in the waterway, long treated as international. Local reports said explosions occurred near Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas and Sirik after the US strikes.

US officials said President Donald Trump ordered the strikes. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned Iran that it would pay a price for its actions.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US of breaching a temporary ceasefire and cited the unilateral withdrawal of oil sale waivers as a root cause. The US countered that it revoked waivers in response to Iranian attacks in the strait.

The exchanges of strikes and accusations have further raised regional tensions and disrupted shipping security in the Gulf. International agencies continue to monitor developments and verify on ground reports.
