Centre Advises Shipping Firms Not To Deploy Indians On Hormuz Route

New Delhi, July 16: The Centre has advised shipping companies not to deploy Indian seafarers on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz due to the deteriorating security situation in West Asia.

The Directorate General of Shipping issued the advisory amid increasing attacks on commercial vessels in the region and concerns over the safety of Indian crew members. The advisory will remain in force until further orders.

The maritime regulator directed ship owners and operators to avoid assigning Indian nationals to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz while the security situation remains volatile.

It also urged shipping companies to closely monitor navigational warnings, follow all international maritime safety protocols, and remain updated on official security advisories.

The Directorate General of Shipping shared emergency contact details for vessels operating in the region and said it was continuously monitoring developments in the Gulf.

The advisory comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia and repeated attacks on ships in and around the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over the safety of commercial shipping and seafarers.
