Hyderabad, July 16: Thousands of devotees participated in the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra across Hyderabad on Thursday, with the city echoing with chants of “Jai Jagannath” and “Haribol” as decorated chariots carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Balabhadra were taken out in grand processions.
The ISKCON Abids Rath Yatra began from NTR Stadium, attracting a large gathering of devotees before concluding at the Exhibition Grounds.
A parallel 130 year old Rath Yatra, organised by the Jagannath Swamy Ramgopal Trust, was held in Secunderabad’s General Bazar, with the procession passing through MG Road and Ranigunj.
Devotees also gathered in large numbers at the Jagannath Dwara Math in Begum Bazaar, where a special Chhappan Bhog offering was presented as part of the celebrations.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of devotees visited the Jagannath Temple in Banjara Hills for darshan before the afternoon procession commenced.
To ensure smooth movement during the celebrations, the Hyderabad Traffic Police implemented traffic diversions and issued travel advisories for commuters. Authorities made arrangements to regulate vehicular movement and manage the large crowds attending the festival.
The annual Jagannath Rath Yatra is one of the city’s prominent religious events and witnessed enthusiastic participation from devotees across Hyderabad.
