Internet, July 19: India achieved another milestone in indigenous defence manufacturing as Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu unveiled the first Made in India Airbus C 295 strategic military transport aircraft at the Tata Advanced Systems Limited facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.
The Minister visited the manufacturing unit and shared a video of the aircraft on social media platform X. He said the project reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat and Make in India, adding that India’s aircraft manufacturing capabilities are expanding rapidly.
C 295 Strengthens India’s Defence Manufacturing
Rammohan Naidu said the C 295 project represents a significant step towards building a self reliant aerospace ecosystem. He expressed confidence that India would soon witness wider adoption of domestically manufactured aircraft.
The C 295 programme is a joint venture between Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems Limited. It is the first complex military aircraft to be manufactured in India by the private sector.
India signed a $2.6 billion agreement for 56 C 295 aircraft in 2021. Under the contract, 16 aircraft are being manufactured in Spain, while the remaining 40 are being produced at the Vadodara facility.
The first Made in India C 295 aircraft successfully completed its test flight on June 10.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently highlighted the programme during his Mann Ki Baat address. He said the project would create new opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises, support technology transfer, strengthen skill development and expand India’s domestic aerospace industry.
