Congress and BJP | Hyderabad, July 22 (Maxim News): Congress and BJP workers clashed violently in Karimnagar on Wednesday following state-wide protests called by the Congress party against the reported arrest of senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi.
Police used batons to control the situation and detained several Congress activists. Heavy police deployment continues in the city as tension remains high.
According to reports, a large group of Congress workers marched toward the residence of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay in Karimnagar. However, BJP leaders and activists blocked them at the gate. BJP workers stood guard at the residence holding sticks. A heated argument broke out between the two groups at the scene.
Furthermore, the confrontation escalated quickly. Congress workers allegedly threw stones and sandals at BJP leaders. Both groups then attacked each other on the streets. As a result, the area around Bandi Sanjay’s house turned into a scene of open clashes between the two parties’ cadres.

Consequently, police intervened when the situation went out of control. Officers used batons to disperse the crowds. They detained a number of Congress leaders and workers from the scene. Meanwhile, BJP cadres reacted to the Congress attack by moving toward the district Congress party office in protest.
However, Congress leaders stopped the BJP cadres before they could enter the office. This triggered another round of high tension in the area. Additionally, police deployed heavy force across Karimnagar to contain further escalation. Officers maintained positions at both locations as both parties issued challenges and counter-challenges to each other.
Moreover, the Congress party called state-wide protests on Wednesday in response to what it described as the arrest of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in the national capital. This triggered demonstrations across Telangana. However, Karimnagar saw the most intense confrontation of the day due to its proximity to Union Minister Bandi Sanjay’s constituency base.
The situation in Karimnagar remains tense at the time of publication. Police have not yet issued an official statement on the number of detentions or injuries. Further updates are expected as the day progresses and both parties respond formally to the incidents. (Maxim News)
