New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced that the Centre will establish fast track courts to ensure speedy trials and strict punishment in paper leak cases, describing the protection of students’ interests as the government’s top priority.
The announcement comes amid nationwide protests over alleged examination irregularities and demands by the Opposition and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
PM Modi Promises Swift Action Against Paper Leak Accused
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said, “Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth.”
He added that the government has decided to establish fast track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leak cases.
“We have decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. I have directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that the decision is part of a series of measures aimed at protecting students and ensuring that those responsible for compromising examinations are brought to justice.
“This continues our series of steps for safeguarding the interests of students. Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared,” he said.
The Prime Minister had also raised the issue during the recent NDA meeting, describing paper leaks as a “grave sin.”
Rahul Gandhi Counters PM, Reiterates Students’ Demands
Responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused the government of failing to protect the education system and alleged that it had allowed large-scale irregularities.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said the Prime Minister had harmed the future of students by failing to prevent paper leaks and protect educational institutions.
He reiterated the Opposition’s demands, calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, an apology to students, and action against those allegedly involved in the police action on protesting students.
Rahul Gandhi had earlier claimed that more than 150 paper leak incidents had occurred over the past decade without a single conviction.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) also maintained its demand for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation following the Prime Minister’s announcement.
The paper leak issue has triggered protests by students and Opposition parties in New Delhi and has also disrupted proceedings in Parliament. While the Opposition has insisted on the Education Minister’s resignation before any discussion, the government has agreed to debate the issue in Parliament and accused the Opposition of delaying the proceedings by making the resignation a precondition.
The controversy continues to dominate the ongoing Parliament session, with both the government and the Opposition exchanging sharp criticism over the handling of examination irregularities.
