Dubai, July 23: US President Donald Trump has indicated that the United States could target an underground Iranian nuclear facility if tensions with Tehran continue to escalate, as American forces carried out another round of strikes against Iran.
The latest developments come amid heightened military confrontation and growing concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump Warns of Further Military Action
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it conducted another night of strikes aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian vessels operating in regional waters.
Earlier, Trump warned that the United States would respond forcefully to any Iranian attack on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking from the Oval Office, he also signalled that US forces could target Pickaxe Mountain, an underground nuclear facility under construction near Iran’s Natanz nuclear complex.
The site was not struck during the 2025 conflict between Iran and Israel, despite US attacks on other nuclear related facilities.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Tehran would follow an “eye for an eye” policy, warning that any attack on Iranian infrastructure would trigger a strong response.
Iranian state media reported that US missile strikes hit areas near Ahvaz, Ramshir and Andimeshk. It also claimed two people were killed in an attack near Shalamcheh, close to the Iraqi border.
Meanwhile, Kuwait said its air defence systems intercepted hostile drones following what it described as Iranian aggression.
The ongoing conflict has also disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route, raising concerns over international trade and fuel prices.
Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear programme is intended for peaceful purposes, despite international concerns over its uranium enrichment activities.
