Amroha, July 24: A video claiming that three sisters married the same man in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and raising legal questions over the validity of the marriage.
According to reports, the three sisters allegedly married a man who had been working as their cameraman for several months.
The women, identified as Saroj (20), Savitri Rani (19) and Santosh Khadakvanshi (18), are residents of Dhaturia village in Hasanpur, Amroha district.
The sisters reportedly create social media content together and had been working with Vikas Khadakvanshi alias Vicky (20), a resident of Shyampuri village, who filmed their videos.
According to the report, when their families began making separate marriage arrangements, the sisters decided they did not want to live apart. They allegedly persuaded Vicky to marry all three of them, and the ceremony reportedly took place at the Chamunda Mata Temple.
A video of the alleged marriage was later shared on social media, where it quickly gained widespread attention.
Reacting to the incident, advocate Anurag Pandey of the Allahabad High Court said that under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, a person cannot legally have more than one living spouse at the same time, and any subsequent marriage during the subsistence of a valid marriage is not legally valid.
Hasanpur Circle Officer Pankaj Tyagi said the matter had come to the notice of the police and a preliminary inquiry was conducted.
According to the officer, the three women stated that they are adults and had acted of their own free will. He added that no formal complaint had been received and that neither family had raised objections before the police.
Police said further action would be taken if an official complaint is filed.
