The Rashtrapati Bhavan said the resignation took effect immediately. Bittu may now focus on Punjab politics ahead of next year’s elections.

Bittu had been in the Union Cabinet since 2024. He joined the BJP that year and contested the Lok Sabha election from Ludhiana but lost. Later, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. His exit from the ministry comes after the completion of his Rajya Sabha term on June 21.

The move is linked to the BJP’s plans in Punjab. Party sources said he is likely to take on a larger organisational role in the state. Bittu is also a prominent Sikh face for the party in Punjab.
