Asaduddin Owaisi Signals Alliance With Samajwadi Party Ahead of UP Polls

Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has expressed his willingness to form an alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, saying discussions should begin immediately to prevent the BJP from returning to power.

Addressing a public event in Moradabad, Owaisi said the AIMIM was open to joining hands with like-minded parties in Uttar Pradesh and urged the Samajwadi Party to respond before it is too late.

“The Majlis party does not want the BJP to return to power in Uttar Pradesh. I am ready to form an alliance. This is the right time for discussions. Don’t wait until the elections and then regret the delay,” Owaisi said.

Referring to concerns that AIMIM’s presence could split opposition votes, Owaisi said he was prepared to work together for a common cause.

“They say that if I contest, it will hurt your chances. That is why I am ready to fight alongside you. We are fighting for justice, dignity and equality. If Akhilesh Yadav sits on one chair, I will sit opposite him and discuss the rights and justice of the people,” he said.

Owaisi also clarified that his politics is not directed against any religion and reiterated that his party seeks equal rights and justice for all communities.

The BJP, however, reacted sharply to his remarks. BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused Owaisi and the Samajwadi Party of engaging in vote bank politics, claiming that Owaisi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav are “two sides of the same coin.”
