New Delhi,July 26: Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth paid tribute to the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War on the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, saying their courage, valour and unwavering resolve scripted a golden chapter in India’s military history.
He said the sacrifice of the Kargil heroes continues to inspire every soldier serving the nation.
In his message, General Seth described Kargil Vijay Diwas as an enduring symbol of the Indian Army’s courage, dedication and supreme sacrifice.
He said the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War defended the country’s sovereignty with exceptional bravery. Their sacrifice, he added, remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the Indian Army.
The Army Chief also reaffirmed the force’s commitment to safeguarding the nation and contributing to nation-building.
India is observing the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas with ceremonies across the country to honour the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 conflict.
The Kargil War began in May 1999 after Pakistani forces infiltrated across the Line of Control (LoC) and occupied strategic mountain positions in the Kargil sector. The intrusion aimed to disrupt the vital link between Kashmir and Ladakh and isolate Indian troops deployed in the Siachen Glacier region.
The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Vijay, supported by the Indian Air Force through Operation Safed Sagar, while the Indian Navy maintained operational readiness. India successfully recaptured the occupied positions without crossing the Line of Control.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India’s victory and honour the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers who defended the nation during the conflict.
