Hyderabad, August 4: Heavy inflows from Maharashtra and Karnataka continued to swell the Jurala Project on the Krishna River on Tuesday, prompting authorities to open 27 gates of the dam to release excess water downstream.
According to irrigation officials, the Jurala Project received 2.10 lakh cusecs of floodwater as of 9 a.m. on Tuesday, following substantial upstream releases from the Narayanpur Dam.
To manage the rising inflows, authorities released a total of 2,13,548 cusecs of water downstream.
The discharge includes:
- 1,80,255 cusecs through the spillway gates
- 28,369 cusecs through the hydropower generation units
Officials said the water level at the Jurala Project stood at 317.47 metres.
The reservoir currently holds:
- Total storage: 7.59 TMC
- Live storage: 3.883 TMC
Irrigation authorities are closely monitoring the inflows from upstream reservoirs and regulating water releases to ensure the safe operation of the project. People residing along the downstream stretches of the Krishna River have been advised to remain alert as high volumes of water continue to be discharged.
