Hyderabad: The Telangana government is exploring the introduction of electric auto-rickshaw services integrated with Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) buses to improve first-mile and last-mile connectivity for commuters across Hyderabad.
The proposed initiative aims to make public transport more accessible by enabling passengers to seamlessly travel between their homes and nearby bus stops using electric autos connected to the TGSRTC network.
TGSRTC electric autos to offer seamless first-mile connectivity
According to officials, commuters will be able to book both their TGSRTC bus journey and the connecting electric auto-rickshaw through a single integrated ticketing system. The move is expected to eliminate the hassle of arranging separate transport before boarding a bus or after reaching their destination.
Under the proposal, electric autos will primarily ferry passengers from residential colonies to nearby bus stops before their journey and from bus stops to their final destinations after alighting.
Transport officials believe the integrated transport model will encourage greater use of public buses by making the entire journey more convenient and reducing dependence on private vehicles.
The project is expected to be implemented in phases, with the first rollout planned within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. Based on commuter response and operational experience, the service is likely to be expanded to other major cities, including Karimnagar, Warangal and Nizamabad.
Officials are also holding discussions with electric vehicle manufacturers to identify suitable e-auto models and finalise the operational framework for the service.
The government is simultaneously working on the logistics required to integrate the proposed electric auto network with TGSRTC’s existing transport system, including route planning, ticketing integration and operational coordination.
If implemented, the initiative is expected to strengthen Hyderabad’s public transport ecosystem while promoting clean mobility through the use of electric vehicles.
