New Delhi: An Indian-flagged merchant vessel, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, came under attack in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen on Tuesday, prompting a swift rescue operation that safely evacuated all 13 Indian crew members, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
The MEA confirmed that the vessel sank following the attack but said all Indian nationals onboard were rescued without casualties.

Condemning the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs described the attack on the Indian-flagged commercial vessel as deeply concerning and called for an immediate end to attacks on merchant shipping in the region.
“We condemn the attack on the Indian-flagged commercial vessel, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, that sank in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen on August 4,” the MEA said in an official statement.
The ministry said the Indian Embassy in Riyadh is closely monitoring the situation and is coordinating with Yemeni authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the rescued crew members.
The MEA also expressed gratitude to the Yemeni authorities for their prompt assistance in rescuing the Indian nationals.
The government noted that repeated attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea have become a matter of serious concern, affecting global maritime trade and regional security.
“The continuing incidents of attacks on commercial shipping in the region are deeply worrisome,” the ministry said.
India reiterated its call for the restoration of safe navigation through international waters in accordance with international law.
“The targeting of commercial shipping in the region must end, and free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through international waterways must be restored at the earliest,” the MEA added.
The latest incident comes amid continuing security challenges in the Red Sea, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes, where commercial vessels have faced repeated attacks in recent months.
