Hyderabad, August 5: A first year Intermediate student sustained serious injuries after three senior students allegedly assaulted him following a dispute over a freshers party at a private junior college in Kothapet. Chaitanyapuri Police registered a case against the three minor students and the college management on Monday under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997.
According to the police complaint, the incident began during discussions over organizing a freshers party as part of the college fest. An argument reportedly broke out between the 17 year old first year student and three second year students. Although the dispute appeared to end on the campus, it later turned violent outside the college.
Student Suffers Nasal Fracture
Police said the three senior students allegedly intercepted the junior student after college hours and assaulted him. During the attack, one of the accused allegedly punched him in the face, causing a severe injury. The victim suffered a fractured nasal bone and was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
Doctors examined the student and confirmed the nasal fracture. They reportedly advised him to undergo surgery due to the seriousness of the injury.
The victim also alleged that he immediately informed the college management about the assault. However, he claimed that the management failed to initiate action against the accused students and instead treated the incident as a minor issue.
Based on the complaint, police also booked the college management for alleged negligence in handling the matter.
Investigators registered the case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997. Police are examining CCTV footage, recording witness statements, and investigating the circumstances that led to the assault.
The incident has once again raised concerns over student safety, ragging, and the responsibility of educational institutions to respond promptly to complaints of campus violence. Authorities said further investigation is in progress, and appropriate legal action will follow based on the evidence collected.
