Mumbai, August 7: Mumbai Police have launched an investigation after Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde’s official email account received another bomb threat warning of attacks before Independence Day. The latest message is the third such threatening email received by the Mayor’s office.
Police have initiated cyber forensic analysis to identify the sender and verify the credibility of the threat.
Bomb Threat Email Targets Public Places and Leaders
According to police, the email claimed that bombs would be detonated before August 15, targeting schools, the Mumbai Metro, the stock exchange and other prominent locations in the city.
The message also contained pro Khalistan slogans and allegedly threatened attacks on several public figures, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
It further claimed that car bomb attacks would be carried out in areas including Ghatkopar, Marol Naka, Andheri, Gundavali and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The email also urged parents not to send children to schools or use the Mumbai Metro.
Police said the threatening message also mentioned plans to disrupt Independence Day celebrations and target the Mayor’s office.
Following the latest threat, the Mumbai Cyber Police have begun tracing the email’s IP address and examining technical evidence to identify the sender. Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of the claims, and the investigation is ongoing.
