New Delhi, August 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged IIT Delhi graduates to focus on personal growth rather than comparing themselves with others.
Modi made the remarks while addressing the 57th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. More than 3,000 students attended the event.
The graduating batch included 587 PhD scholars. The institute presented degrees to the graduating students during the ceremony.
Modi also inaugurated the Param Pragya High Performance Artificial Intelligence Supercomputing Center. The facility was inaugurated at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.
PM Modi highlights learning and technology
Modi said students should not measure success through salaries, jobs, companies or social status. He also cautioned them against comparing their progress with others on social media.
He said life does not work like a leaderboard. Instead, he urged students to compete with themselves and track their own progress.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the changing nature of technology and careers. He said the next 20 to 30 years could bring major technological changes.
According to Modi, technology, industries and professions will continue to evolve. However, he said learning will remain essential for adapting to those changes.
He urged students to remain curious and develop the courage to address unfamiliar challenges. He also asked them to turn obstacles into opportunities.
Modi said IIT education gives students the ability to solve complex problems. He added that graduates also carry a responsibility to contribute to the country’s development.
He highlighted sectors including space technology, semiconductors, drones and artificial intelligence. He also mentioned data centres, critical minerals, quantum computing and electric mobility.
The Prime Minister said young innovators have strengthened India’s startup ecosystem and digital economy. He also stressed the importance of research and development.
He encouraged students to use initiatives such as the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship. He also highlighted the Research, Development and Innovation Scheme and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation.
Modi said students should consider national interests while making important career decisions. He added that their professional journeys can contribute to India’s goal of becoming a developed country.
The Prime Minister recalled attending the IIT Delhi convocation virtually during the Covid 19 pandemic. He said he was pleased to attend the ceremony in person this time.
