Hyderabad, Aug 19 (Maxim News):The Food and Drug Administration has cracked down on adulteration of cooking oils in Maharashtra. It recently conducted raids in Beed district and seized adulterated cooking oil worth Rs. 1.93 crore. Millions of liters of oil were seized. These raids were conducted in various establishments in the district. It is also being said that this is the first time in the history of the district that adulterated oil has come to light on such a scale.
According to local media reports, the raids were conducted on August 6 and 7. A total of 1,18,940 kg of adulterated oils were seized. It was revealed that oils of the same quality were being repackaged and sold in packets marked as refined and ultra-refined, endangering public health. Unsanitary storage tanks were also found in several establishments.
These irregularities were revealed in Swagat Oil and Charkha Oil companies. Officials have identified similar irregularities in other companies as well. Officials have cancelled the licenses of the four companies that were found to be involved in irregularities. The companies have been sealed. A total of 26 samples have been collected and sent to labs for testing.(Maxim News)
