Lok Sabha Passes Tribunals Reforms Bill By Voice Vote

New Delhi, August 10: The Lok Sabha passed the Tribunals Reforms Bill by voice vote on Monday amid opposition concerns.

The House later adjourned until Tuesday. The bill seeks to improve efficiency and transparency in the appointment process for tribunal chairpersons and members.

The legislation also aims to bring greater uniformity to the tribunal system.

Bill Provides For National Tribunal Commission

The Tribunals Reforms Bill proposes the formation of a National Tribunal Commission.

The commission will have a chairperson and four members. Two members will come from the legal field, while two will have technical expertise.

A retired Supreme Court judge or a retired Chief Justice of a High Court will head the commission.

The proposed framework follows earlier Supreme Court directions on improving the qualifications and appointment process for tribunal members.
