Hyderabad, Aug 10 (Maxim News): More than half of Hyderabad district’s government land is involved in court cases, prompting Collector Priyanka Ala to order a detailed review.
The district has about 21.74 lakh square yards of government land. Nearly 12 lakh square yards of this land faces legal disputes in courts.
Officials have identified 238 court cases involving government land across the district. The large number of disputes has raised concerns over the protection and management of government properties.
Colblector Priyanka has directed revenue officials to prepare a comprehensive report on the cases. Officials must submit the report within two to three days.
The report will include the current status of every case. It will also state whether the revenue department has filed proper counter affidavits in the respective courts.
The Collector has sought specific details from officials about pending litigation. She has also directed them to review the legal position of disputed government properties.
She has given particular attention to the 22A prohibited properties list. The provision aims to prevent the illegal sale and registration of government and other restricted properties.
However, errors in the list have reportedly affected some private patta lands. In several instances, private properties located near government land allegedly entered the prohibited list.
As a result, owners of such properties face difficulties when they attempt to register or transfer their land. Some affected property owners have been approaching tahsildar offices and the Collectorate for relief.
The Collector is also reviewing how such private properties entered the 22A list. Officials have been asked to examine the records and identify where errors occurred.
The review will focus on whether the disputed properties actually belong to the government. It will also examine the documents supporting private ownership claims.
Among the areas facing a significant litigation burden, Shaikpet mandal has the highest number of pending cases, with 50 cases. Officials will have to provide updated information on each matter.
The review comes amid growing concerns over government land protection and delays in resolving property disputes. It also seeks to balance the protection of public land with the rights of genuine private property owners.
The Collector’s directions are expected to help the district administration identify long pending cases and strengthen its legal response. Officials will also examine 22A related complaints and take appropriate action based on land records and applicable rules.(Maxim News)
